Fatima Baig
Fatima Baig is an artist, designer, and illustrator based out of Punjab, Pakistan. Fatima has been interested in art from a young age and studied graphic design from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan. Much of her artwork features portraits of strong South Asian female figures, vibrant colors, and symbolism such as the moon to represent the connection between humans, divinity, and the universe.
A lot of Fatima’s artwork features strong female figures and she talks about how these pieces are inspired by the women she meets in her life whether that be the way they carry themselves, their personal style, or their confidence. She integrates these expressions into her artwork along with other symbolism such as the moon. For Fatima, the moon signifies the connection between humans, our higher selves, and the universe.
Fatima integrates many South Asian cultural archetypes and designs into her work but what is so special about her art is that the imagery of powerful women and cultural tradition is relatable for any audience member regardless of background.
She says, “I believe that we’re all part of one human culture. Cultures and traditions evolve with time but it’s the differences in our cultures that bring diversity in our lives because without them, everyone will look the same and there’ll be nothing new to learn and I think these differences should be respected and celebrated,” which speaks to the universality of Fatima’s artwork and her storytelling.
